Yesterday it was 60 years since l’Abbé Pierre founded the first Emmaus-community near Paris. It was destined to help men living in the streets, providing them shelter and work. Since I have been in close contact with one Emmaus-community I could’t let pass this date without a little note.
Depuis quelques années je regarde de près la vie d’une communauté Emmaüs. Pour cette raison je n’ai pas pu passer à côté du 60ème anniversaire de la première communauté Emmaüs en France sans un mot.
L’Abbé Pierre who died two years ago founded the communities in a time France was (allready) suffering from a lack of housing for the poor. « Unfortunately » the organisation is thriving today, because the need for help and housing is still enormous. L’Abbé Pierre is one the most loved persons in France and his life work has acquired new forms and has spread internationally. Is there an Emmaus shop near you that you could visit ? "Ne pas subir, toujours agir", don’t accept, act, is Emmaus’ latest leading idea."Ne pas subir, toujours agir", tel est le mot d’ordre d’Emmaüs aujourd’hui. Malheureusement » Emmaüs se porte toujours très bien, c'est-à-dire que la manque des logements et la pauvreté sont toujours actuelles en France. Y a-t’il un magasin Emmaüs près de vous pour porter votre contribution à l’œuvre de l’Abbé Pierre ?
